چکیده
To the Editor: We read the article by Rubio-Tapia and colleagues with great interest. In this article, the authors describe the occurrence of severe spruelike enteropathy in 22 patients, all of whom received olmesartan (predominantly 40 mg/d) besides other drugs. Duodenal Villous Atrophy in a TTG-Negative Patient Taking Olmesartan: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Olmesartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist used to treat hypertension, is associated with few adverse effects. Here, a case of severe sprue-like enteropathy and acute kidney injury is described in a 68-year-old male taking olmesartan for 3-4 years. He presented to hospital with a five-week history of diarrhea, vomiting, and a 20 lb weight loss. Anti-TTG was negative with a normal IgA. Bi...

Sprue-like enteropathy associated with treatment with olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker, has been described recently. Herein, we report two patients who developed chronic severe non-bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and muscle wasting after prolonged use of olmesartan. Histologic and immunohistochemical examination of multiple duodenal biopsies revealed severe villous atrophy...

BACKGROUND The Randomized Olmesartan and Diabetes Microalbuminuria Prevention (ROADMAP) study showed that 40 mg Olmesartan medoxomil (OM) versus placebo delayed microalbuminuria onset in patients with type 2 diabetes and normoalbuminuria. METHODS AND RESULTS One thousand seven hundred and fifty-eight ROADMAP patients (placebo arm: 877; OM arm: 881) participated in the observational follow up ...
